Pieria
Pieria is a prefecture in Greece and one of the few places that uniquely combine the beauty of mountains with that of the sea. Pieria offers special and enjoyable holidays all year round, as its endless beaches, golden shores and the clear waters of the Thermaikos Gulf are only a stone's away from the enchanting, historical and lush green mountains of Pieria. The region of Pieria is located in the southern part of Macedonia, facing the Aegean Sea. Mount Olympus, the tallest mountain in Greece and the home of the Greek gods, rises in the southern part of Pieria.
At the foothills of Mount Olympus, built in the gorge of the river Enipeas, stands the picturesque and historic town of Litochoro. The Macedonian architecture of the village with its narrow streets and countless chapels and the climp to the summit of Olympus, are enough to fascinate any visitor. Its short distance of only 5 km from the coast makes Litochoro a remarkable choice for all seasons. One of the most popular winter destinations is the ski resort of Elatochori. In Elatochori you can ski, taste the local cuisine and enjoy the breathtaking views of Mount Olympus. Another famous destination, built on the slopes of Mount Olympus at an altitude of 500 meters, is the traditional settlement of Paleos Panteleimon. There you can hike and try the delicious local dishes in the picturesque tavernas scattered in the village.
The coastline of Pieria in the southern part of the prefecture, Olympiaki Akti (Olympic Beach), Plaka Litochoro, Leptokarya, the beach of Panteleimon and Platamonas attract many visitors, especially during the summer. The seaside resorts of Pieria offer an endless coastline, rich in natural beauty, sandy beaches and unique landscapes. The large and beautiful sandy beach of Katerini is just 7 km from the city of Katerini.
Pieria's transportation infrastructure is complete with a national highway, inter-provincial and provincial roads, buses and railways. Katerini is just 70 km from Thessaloniki and 80 km from the international airport "Macedonia".
